A Spiritual Autobiography explores how we Chart a life in narrative form: some beginning, some end, and "auto" of course means you do it. There is another perspective and that is from another, another's view of you and your life. The lecture calls to us to awaken by enlivening the three primary centers of the psycho-physical organism. They are the active-will, the mental-intuitive, and the feeling-heart centers.
Arriving at Truth discusses how narrative is the central structure of our mythology, so that we see spiritual practice as seeking; how we see the world about us as an unfolding narrative, a tale of good and bad, and how this is not a spiritual but a relative point of view; how we are indoctrinated and controlled by fear and desire and by society while you cannot control an individual who is free; how the heart requires space and time and how our modern society is anti-heart; how you attach to your personal truth through the act of attention, whereas Truth itself is perpetually present. Finally, Arriving at Truth discusses the fallacy of mysticism or in-turning "spiritual" practices.
In this lecture Richard Harvey discusses the stages of divesting yourself of pretend-Gods and the parallel stages of divesting yourself of your pretend-self. In crying out ‘Wherefore art thou?,’ you enter into a process of uncovering, so radical and yet natural in its revelation, that the exhilaration on your journey to liberation becomes intense indeed.
The focus of this lecture is on the question ‘How should I live?’ The answer to the question inevitably involves our relationship to others and that relationship in turn involves our relationship to ourselves. From there all else is possible. The relationship with ourselves, as possibly everyone more or less is beginning to understand, is primary, critical, and, usually for us all, in need of examination and understanding.
This lecture responds to such questions as What can we see? How far can we see? How much, how long, and how real? Do we see with only the naked eye or do we see with the inner eye, the eye of spiritual intuition and spiritual knowledge? Do we see through eyes clouded by longing or judgment or prejudice or perfectionism? Or do we see through eyes of accord, of harmony and acceptance, concord and confluence? Can we see without judging, witness without criticizing every day: is this a choice, a need, or our birthright? Do we see a world of richness and beauty, color and texture, mystery and wonder? Or do we see a world, dark gray behind the veil of thought, the fog of concepts and notions?
Resistance to Freedom addresses how to free ourselves from our ego-processes. The lecture begins with a discussion of ‘the essence of life’ and meanders through explorations of the defense of our first nature, learning to survive, and a wonderful metaphor of the ‘six-fold process for preparing olives’ to examine the blossoming of the ego-processes through to divesting ourselves of this illusionary attachment to the ego via the process of forgiveness. The lecture ends with offerings about attachment, surrender, and the end of struggle.

The message of this lecture is that to realize consciousness we must come to realize the only thing that is real is love. Along the way, however, we must experience the passing of the delusion and the importance of assimilating great wisdom and making it our own. To Realize Consciousness echoes the great teachings about the importance of selecting a path, remaining true and committed to that path, and the reasons we need to do so.
This lecture explores the question of whether the student benefits from, or needs, a spiritual teacher in their life. Who Needs A Guru? examines a student’s relationship to his/her spiritual teacher, the different ways we consciously and unconsciously reject a spiritual teacher, and the truth in the guru relationship. Richard also shares the levels of spiritual preparation required for relationship with your spiritual teacher.
Being Born A Human Being discusses our invitation to live in the Divine mystery through self-awareness and self-reflection. ‘The Ocean of Stillness’ uses the story of ‘The Nameless Tao’ and the legend of Bodhidharma to discuss the third stage of awakening in Richard’s Harvey 3-stage model of human awakening. This lecture incorporates the metaphor of constructing a building to illuminate Richard’s lessons on spiritual development.
In ‘Spiritual Baptism,’ Richard Harvey uses the stories of ‘The Useless Tree’ and Martin Buber’s ‘Ich and Du’ to share lessons on deep spirituality. Both stories look at the presence of ‘being’ and the relationship of presence in teaching us about liberation from suffering.
Through the story of the ‘Sacred Tortoise,’ the Gospels’ temptations of Christ, ‘Locating Destiny’ invites our awareness of our capacity, potential, and destiny. Richard Harvey gently guides us to look at our tests, trials, and ordeals as our beckoning from the Divine.
‘Transcending Separation’ invites us to look at the story of ‘The Empty Boat,’ Jesus’ dictum of turning the other cheek, to explore the second stage of awakening in Richard’s Harvey 3-stage model of human awakening. In this lecture Richard takes us on a journey of self-exploration, emotional expression, the form of our emptiness, divine ignorance, reaction and response, and the primal sense of threat that influences our response to life.
In ‘Penetrating Wisdom’ Richard Harvey explores the stories of Huang-ti and the Upanishads’ story, from the Chandogya Upanishad about Indra and Prajapati, that Richard titles ‘Carrying Fuel,’ to examine the journey around the self. Both stories take us on a journey through pain and suffering toward the truth of our being and deepest wisdom.

‘Awareness’ is about our individual reflection of the Divine. Richard Harvey shares that without awareness nothing is possible, but that in time the reality that your personal awareness is a reflection of the universal totality of Existence itself that releases in you a great spiritual insight—that you and the Divine are One.
‘Devotion’ is about our absolute surrender to the Divine. Richard Harvey explores devotion by examining such topics as: spirituality for the modern era, the devotee, and the three principle modes of devotion: gnana, karma, and bhakti.
‘Maturity’ invites us to assume our birthright to absolute freedom. Our present human era is one of perpetual childhood. To reach full maturity—spiritual maturity—we must, first, ascend to the heart.
‘Love’ explores the truth of love. Love is when there is no different, no distance, no giving or receiving between you and the other. Love is not what you do, what you have, how you express yourself, or what you strive to attain, neither is it what you do or say or offer or present. Love is what you are. To live this, to love as yourself, takes practice and great courage.
‘Disenchantment’ explores the spiritual nature of despair. Spiritual disenchantment marks the threshold of transformation, a spiritual transformation for the seeker, a movement through the veils of darkness. As Richard Harvey shares “It is a vital step in your liberation from the chains, from the bindings of the world and your attachments to it.
Richard Harvey’s talks and teachings often go beyond the popular views on spirituality, and this lecture is no exception. ‘Now’ discusses how the philosophy of ‘now’ is a fallacy, is, at best, relaxation, it is of no use to the sadhu because it is relative to past and future, and how ‘now’ is unreal and therefore unattainable.
‘Anger’ is a perennial topic is spiritual teachings. In this lecture Richard Harvey uses the topic to explore the destruction and the dissolution of the sacred, how anger is control and defeat, and how anger is a merely a choice we make.
In ‘Relationship’ Richard Harvey shares our deep longing to be reunited with the eternal and the significance of our earthly relationships in that process of self-discovery.
‘Surrender’ examines how we reflect the Divine into our earthly domain. Richard Harvey shares how surrender is a process of “simply allowing” and how this is achieved through releasing attachment and the ego-compromises.
